The Hoffen Foundation
The mission of the Hoffen Foundation is ever expanding as new areas of need come to light. The main focus is to assist children with differing diseases, disabilities and socioeconomic challenges by raising money to enhance the ability of existing organizations to provide
new programs and ongoing assistance. That assistance may be in the form of toys during the holidays, clothes and educational supplies for the school year, financial assistance for medical facilities, organizations or needs, funding to support outings to stimulate children’s imaginations and opportunities to engage in activities they may otherwise not experience.
Tim Zemens, a cancer survivor, has been participating in charitable activities through different groups in the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex and in conjunction with his love of hockey officiating in the Central Hockey League and North American Hockey League. Establishing the Hoffen Foundation has been a cumulative effect. His personal experience surviving cancer, losing family to the disease and ultimately experiencing the positive effects of friends and family reaching out during difficult times fostered the desire to give back to the community. Helping children’s charities reach their goals is just the beginning.
Tim Zemens of Arlington, Texas established the non-profit Hoffen Foundation during the summer of 2003, with the help of his brother and sister-in-law, Ron and Karen Zemens of Lenox, Michigan. The name “Hoffen” is German for “hope”, an action and emotion crucial to overcoming obstacles and challenges in life. It is the desire of the Zemens to carry out fund raising events to benefit charitable groups that may cultivate such hope for children throughout the United States and Canada.
Since March 2004, Hoffen has appointed additional directors to oversee growth of the Foundation and foster leadership roles. With these new additions Hoffen is confident that the background, input, and creativity the
directors bring, will take the Foundation in many new and exciting directions. The directors are: Robert Chuhak — Darden Restaurants (Former CHL & NAHL Linesmen), John Qualls (Former CHL & NAHL Linesmen), Ken Reinhard — Tarrant Lighting (former President of the Metroplex Hockey Officials Association), Scott Branan — Small business owner and investor, Linda Lemmond, Mark Lorance (former Mayor of Rhome, Texas), Kristi Lorance, John Spence, Jonese Spence, Bret Johnston (former CHL and NAHL linesmen) and Holly Zemens-O’Brien.
Programs such as outings for local children in hospitals to area sporting
events, and visits by professional sports figures to hospitals are examples of our ongoing programs. The establishment of a scholarship for college bound children with hospital histories, snacks or welcome packages for kids and families with hospital extended stays, and support for a variety of programs for established charities throughout
the United States are staples in our distribution of funds. St. Jude Children’s Hospital, and the rebuilding of the Ronald McDonald House in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina are also small examples of our unique dedication to children’s causes.
As fund raising activities occur, our web site will be updated with information on the outcomes and what organizations received the proceeds. Please continue to visit for updates and news. Thank you for your interest in the Hoffen Foundation. We hope you will help us in “Giving Children a Ray of Hope” throughout the United States and Canada.
Thank you.
